Funding
Audiology South will help you source and apply for any funding that you may be eligible for.
There are some great hearing aid funding options for New Zealand residents, and many adults qualify for either the Government subsidy or other assistance. At Audiology South, we’re happy to help you explore your options and apply for the funding that best fits your needs. Here’s a summary of the options available, and our friendly staff can provide more details.
Ministry of Health Subsidy
If you’re paying privately for your hearing aids, you may be eligible for the Ministry of Health subsidy, which is currently $511.11 per device or $1,022.22 for a set (including GST). It’s renewable every six years, and most hearing aids at Audiology South qualify. Just ask us for more information—we’re here to help!
ACC
If your hearing has been affected by long-term noise exposure or an injury, you may be eligible for ACC funding to help with the cost of hearing aids, along with an allowance for on-going servicing, repairs and consumables (e.g. filters, domes and receivers).
What is the process?
We start with a diagnostic hearing assessment to better understand your level of hearing loss and confirm your eligibility to apply for ACC funding. From there, your audiologist will assist you in lodging your claim with ACC.
ACC will arrange for you to see an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist to make a specific diagnosis of noise-induced hearing loss or trauma-related hearing loss.
After the ENT specialist provides their report, ACC will review your claim and determine if you are eligible for funding towards hearing aids.
If your claim is approved, you can then select hearing aids that meet your needs and are covered by ACC funding.
What hearing aids can I get with ACC funding?
Audiology South offers fully funded hearing aid options, regardless of the amount of approved funding you receive from ACC. If your ACC funding doesn’t fully cover the cost of your preferred hearing solution, you have the option to pay the difference. Your audiologist will assist you in selecting the solution that best suits your needs.
What if I'm not approved?
If your claim is not accepted, we can help you explore other funding options, such as the Ministry of Health Subsidy for hearing aids or health insurance.
Veteran Affairs
Veteran Affairs may assist those who have hearing loss related to active service. If you’ve served in the armed forces, let us know, and we can help with your funding application or contact your Veteran Affairs case manager.
Health Insurance
Some health insurance policies provide coverage for audiology services, including hearing aids. Be sure to check your policy for specific details.
Work & Income NZ
If you’re receiving Work and Income support, you may be eligible for a repayable hearing aid loan of up to $1,000—or more in some cases. Ask us how this could help you today.
"ENABLE" / EMS
Under Enable New Zealand EMS regulations, those with multiple disabilities or financial hardship may be eligible for funding. This includes people with moderate-to-severe hearing loss or those needing hearing aids for work, study, or caregiving.
Additionally, all children up to age 21 qualify for hearing aid funding while attending educational courses.
