Life in a protective ‘bubble’

Are there any upsides to the situation we find ourselves in? Tranquility and family time are at the top of Simon Melville’s list. Reach out for support if you are in need. Make other people smile by sharing your funny lockdown stories.

On my trip to the supermarket this morning I was struck by how peaceful Queenstown is: no aircraft overhead, sparse traffic and no tourism bustle. The carpark was empty and only a few people were in the store. The town was overwhelmingly tranquil.

These are difficult times for everyone — individuals, families, communities and businesses — but it has also given me an opportunity to slow down and reflect on what is good about life right now, and this tranquillity and the chance to spend more time with my family are at the top of that list.

Not everyone is fortunate to live in a supportive ʻbubble’. Many will be feeling disrupted and vulnerable. And if you are alone, without support, please reach out to us for help.

If you need any help or support, please email (or phone) Simon Melville for the Southland/ Central Otago region: simon@audiologysouth.co.nz, 021 933 922, or Anthony Rowcroft for the Otago region: anthony@audiologysouth.co.nz, 021 344 006.

Let’s add some happiness to this experience. Tell us how you are working this self-isolation; send us your photos. Maybe you’ve had some funny experiences in lockdown to share, or ideas of fun things to do. If you have any ideas or suggestions about topics you would like covered in upcoming newsletters feel free to email us: ihaveanidea@audiologysouth.co.nz

Given you all may have a little extra time on your hands right now, we’ll try and bring you another newsletter very soon with updates and some good lockdown reading. Meanwhile, we wish people good health in this difficult time.
