You may remember Mono, the English Cocker Spaniel who Audiology South recently sponsored at Hearing Dogs NZ. Mono has now finished the Hearing Dogs training programme and was placed in Auckland earlier this month. Mono has gone to be with a recipient who has previously had a Hearing Dog, their connection was instant and Mono’s work inside the home has come naturally for them both.
Let us now introduce you to Cruz! Cruz was born on 29 June 2024 and is a (very adorable) Cavoodle.
Our sponsorship of Hearing Dogs NZ goes towards:
- Training the puppy
- Equipment used - jackets, bedding, bowls, leads, collars, haltis etc.
- Food and training treats
- Veterinary costs
- Costs associated with the placement of the puppy with the Deaf person
Meet Chloe and Ardie!
Chloe is a client at Audiology South Invercargill and the recipient of the lovely Ardie, from Hearing Dog NZ. Chloe and Ardie have been together since September 2024 and are already the bestest of friends.
Hearing Dogs NZ
Hearing Dogs NZ assess, select, train and place Hearing Dogs with deaf and severely hearing-impaired New Zealanders. They're based in New Plymouth with a for-purpose training facility (including a house simulation!) where trainees learn through positive reinforcement, play, rewards and fun activities.
Hearing Dogs gently tap their companions with their paw to let them know they've heard something and then lead them there. They'll listen for alarm clocks, the doorbell, telephone ringing or text messaging, baby monitors and any specific sounds that are important to their companion.
