Audiology South is proud to support Hearing Dogs NZ. Every year we co-sponsor a puppy in training, which on ‘graduation’ is registered and placed with a hearing-impaired recipient.
Holly is our sponsored puppy, and Hearing Dogs NZ general manager Clare McLaughlin says she is a confident, bubbly girl who loves to play, and gets along with everyone. Holly particularly loves bathtime, and will lie in the tub soaking in the warmth of the water.
This year there are 4 puppies in training. They learn the skills to alert their person to sounds in the environment – the door bell, text messages, alarm clocks, cooker timer. Training usually takes 6 months, but Holly’s education was interrupted by covid-19.
Each dog costs $30,000 to train, which is met primarily by donations, sponsorship, and bequests. Audiology South’s sponsorship goes to pay for Holly’s vet bills, food, leashes and sound equipment, and will also help with the costs to settle her into a new home.
Anyone can commit to funding the life-enhancing work that Hearing Dogs NZ does for people with hearing impairment. You can find out how at hearingdogs.org.nz/what-is-a-hearing-dog/
